The Mountfield Princess 38 Li comes with a cutting-edge 2Ah (48v) lithium-ion battery that delivers all the advantages of petrol power - including cable-free cutting and the freedom to mow anywhere in the garden - with the quiet, no-maintenance performance of mains-power. Lithium-ion batteries develop more power and boast shorter charging-times - the unit supplied with this model will cover around 300m2 on a single charge.
An integrated rear-roller delivers the smart striped finish so beloved of lawn aficionados; three-in-one mowing (collection; mulching; rear-discharge) makes the Mountfield Princess 38 Li Cordless Lawnmower one of the most versatile machines in its class.
Lightweight and easy to handle thanks to its corrosion-proof polypropylene deck, the 38cm Mountfield Princess 38 Li Cordless Lawnmower is ideal for small- to medium-sized gardens, and offers ample mowing flexibility thanks to its six-position cutting-height range (adjustable using only one lever).
High rear wheels keep the mower stable and make it easy to manoeuvre in long grass; innovative grass-combs at the front of the cutter deck separate grass blades in advance of the cut to help keep the finsh smooth and even.
The space-saving netted grass collector supplied with the Princess 38 Li Cordless Lawnmower has a capacity of 40-litres, so you won't have to stop too often to empty it. Further convenience is conferred by the foldable handles, which make storage and transport simple.
Operation is via a full-width bail arm that makes it easy to keep control even when using one hand, and which has an ergonomically moulded grip for optimum user comfort.
The Princess 38 Li Cordless Lawnmower has been upgraded for 2021, forming part of the new Freedom 500 range.

The Brand
The Mountfield name has been associated with quality lawnmowers, garden tractors, ride-on mowers and garden equipment for nearly 50 years. Based in northern Italy, GGP are the market leaders for ride-on mowers in Europe, with 120,000 units sold in 2007 - an estimated 39% market share.
Mountfield lawnmowers and garden equipment are distributed in the UK by GGP UK Limited, who operate a comprehensive service dealer network. Mountfield is Britain's favourite brand of petrol lawnmower and their ride-on mowers & tractors have been sold in the UK since the 1970s.
When our old petrol mower got tempremental, it was time for a change. I bought a self driven petrol mower on the recommendation of a neighbour. Big mistake. It was so heavy and difficult to manouver I ended up sending it back. I have had a corded machine in the past, and got fed up with working round the lead, so that wasn't an option. So I thought I would try a rechargeable, and the Mountfield spec looked good. When it arrived I was worried that it looked rather plasticky. And yes, the grass box was a so-and-so to put together. Things then got better. Performance is great. It leaves a beautiful finish, and is easy to use (especially working round the twisty bits). It is light to handle. Unlike my old petrol mower it cuts wet grass well, and the waste shute doesn't get bunged up when the clippings are wet. True, the battery life is less if the grass is wet and long, but that is no hardship with 2 batteries. I have only done half a dozen cuts so far, so I can't really comment on durability, but so far so good.

This was the first battery powered mower I had purchased and used. Having read previous reviews saying it was difficult to put together, I didn't find it too difficult at all. A little force was needed to put the grass box together but in general it was straight forward.
One thing I did find was that the grey plastic bolt-clips used on the sides to connect the handles together were an issue. When I was mowing the border up close to my fence, they protruded past the wheel line and therefore rubbed up against the fence before the edge of the mower touched the fence, so I took the bolt-clips off and put them on the inside instead and this solved that issue.
The mower itself is fairly lightweight and easy to manoeuvre which the elderly will find beneficial. The batteries - I have a good sized rear lawn and found that if I was only taking a light skimming off the lawn then it would use 1 full battery and then 3 of the 4 lights off the second battery, so that was fine.
However, if the lawn is a touch longer and you want it to work a little harder, then this might be an issue. The mower makes a different sound, like a 'little turbo' has to kick in to help it and I found this reduced the battery life significantly. I would only get a third of the garden done on one battery and then when I was to plug it in to recharge it the battery was fairly warm and the solid red light would come up to say the battery was too hot and I had to wait a while for it to cool down before it could charge. So by the time i had then finished using the second battery and still hadnt finished the lawn i had to wait a while for the batteries to charge up before I could finish the lawn. (Normally i found the battery would take 30-40 minutes to fully charge).
Overall, the mower itself is a good little machine and it also puts a nice striped finish on the lawn too.

Good and light mower, cuts well, old one battery gave in before mower. New model gives two batteries, only need one to do the same mowing as old one.

Light and easy to handle and manoeuvre. One battery does our 350 sq. metre lawn, plus half of the smaller back lawn. On the second charge the battery lasted longer so I expect it will improve over the next few charges.
A delight to be free of the dreaded cable.

It has done better than expected. I can cut all my lawns which are all on different levels. This is why I purchased this product as the petrol one was just too heavy to keep lugging up & down.
This Mountfield cuts really well, the battery lasts a good length of time, it is light & very easy to use compared to my petrol mower. I would definitely recommend to anyone
